Under Kentucky Skies : 25 years of the Kentucky Music Weekend is a documentary celebrating 25 years of Kentucky’s premier folk festival. It is a Ruffian Pictures production, Funded in part by KET’s Fund for Independent Production.

For decades the Kentucky Music Weekend has been a gift to the people of Kentucky and beyond, and the 25th anniversary celebration was one of the most magical. Some of the top folk musicians, singers and songwriters both nationally and internationally came together for three evenings of concerts and a long weekend of workshops, tune swaps, informal mini-concerts, and old time street dancing- all free. Some of the musicians featured in the documentary are Jean Ritchie, David Schnaufer, The Juggernaut Jugband, Madcat and Kane, Small Potatoes, Reel World String Band and Wild Carrot. By tradition, KMW takes place the last week of July at the Iroquois Amphitheatre, an open air public works project built during the Depression that was nestled in the side of a hill in massive Iroquois Park designed by the Olmsted Brothers. The 25th Anniversary was especially poignant because the historic amphitheatre was almost totally demolished later that summer to make way for the more modern, covered concert venue that serves the park today.
