The Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra or NTO as our fans and friends refer to us were playing a show in Austin, Texas a while back, backing up our friend and longtime cohort, Blondie Chaplin. Sitting in with us was Texas piano player and arranger to the stars, Stephen Barber. After the set Steve said to us, “Man, you guys play with such a Chicago accent.” I think I replied affectionately, “NO SH*T!”

“ We are a band rooted in our towns’ lump-dee-lump rhythm that still reverberates up from the streets and sidewalks of this blue city.
” Nicholas Tremulis
The thing I’m most proud of about NTO is that we sound like where we come from. We are a band rooted in our towns’ lump-dee-lump rhythm that still reverberates up from the streets and sidewalks of this blue city. What’s a “Lump-dee-lump”? The first time I took my suburban butt down to the Southside of Chicago for a jam night was in 1975. I got the chance after a few visits and much buying of drinks for Mighty Joe Young and band to sit in on one number at the end of the night. As I walked on stage to play Joe warned, “No solos little whitey. Just Lump-dee-lump.” (i.e. The blues rhythm: lump-dee-lump-dee-lump-dee…) Super Human Love, our summer single is a pure as the driven snow, died in the wool Chi-town lump-dee-lump! ‘Bout time we brought it back to where it all began!
To come full circle, that’s Blondie Chaplin singing falsetto on the chorus as only Mr. Chaplin can. Do check out the little documentary flick on the song as well directed by Emmy award winning Chicago director, Jon Siskel.”
